No, not really. More like a few random, disconnected thoughts about this past Tuesday's elections…
- Anyone telling you that the majority of the American electorate votes strategically or rationally is selling snake oil.
- Democrats need to finally give up trying to appeal to old white people. While that demographic may be the one that turns out in the largest numbers for off-year elections, most of them don't vote Democratic and never will. Trying to appeal to them is just embarrassing.
- Liberals seriously need to get over their obsession with the Koch Brothers. Plutocrats pouring their millions into promoting a severely regressive economic and social agenda? Sure. But the Left has turned them into all-purpose, all-powerful bogeymen, to be deployed as the explanation for any failures to push an actual agenda. Karl Rove was not some evil super-genius back in the George W. Bush days, and neither are these two.
Would I have rather the elections turned out differently? Sure. That said, it is probably not the end of the world.
