A reminder that writers and readers of tech blogs are not ordinary people

Jim Dalrymple, writing at the Loop about Rovi's purchase of Tivo:

I could never figure out why TiVo, a company that everyone seems to love, could never do better in the market.

Yes, TiVo was a great product. Unfortunately, if you signed up with your local cable provider, you didn't automatically get a TiVo. You got their shitty set-top box, with the terrible remote and even worse UI. Sure, those set-top boxes suck, but they mostly get the job done, which is enough for the average person with a cable subscription.
