White House press secretary was apparently accosted in an Apple Store this weekend by a woman asking impertinent questions.
I am sure there will be plenty of discussion about whether this was an appropriate tactic, and hand-wringing from pundits about how the inability of a toady like Spicer to buy a new phone in peace is the real problem. More interesting to me, though, is Spicer's reported response:
It’s "such a great country that allows you to be here," Spicer responded.
Why, whatever could Mr. Spicer be implying, I wonder. Does he have immediate knowledge of her residency status, or is he just assuming the because of the color of her skin, she is not a citizen? Or maybe he thinks people who aren't white can't be real Americans.
Maybe someone should ask him next time he's at the grocery store.
